A message from ICLUBcentral's Doug Gerlach:

Dear Fellow Investor,

Doug Gerlach -- 100x150.jpg Back in 1993, I first became interested in the stock market and investment clubs. Since I knew very little about investing, I started to gather knowledge about the strategies and software that could be used to invest most successfully. I read books, went to classes, and read financial newspapers, and even used early computer networks like Prodigy and CompuServe to try to meet up with other investors and figure out how to best invest.

At the same time, the Internet was just beginning to take off, and I immediately saw the potential of this new medium to transmit information and data about stocks, to help me interact with other like-minded investors and continue my self-education, and provide me with analysis tools that would give me an edge in picking stocks and managing my portfolio.

Soon, I was logging in regularly to research stocks and participate in investing discussions. I joined an online investment club and was on my way towards building a portfolio.

My explorations ultimately led me to another pathway, however, and in time I began sharing what I had learned about online investing with other people -- on web sites, in magazine articles (such as the computerized investing column I wrote for Mutual Funds Magazine), and in books (such as the best-selling Complete Idiot's Guide to Online Investing and the much-lauded Investment Clubs for Dummies). I explored and reviewed tens of thousands of web sites over this time, paying particular attention to those sites that offered tools or data that would help my own portfolio.

Unfortunately, I was never able to find the perfect web site for my own needs. Sure, I found sites that provided fundamental stock data -- but they usually had just a few years of financial data, not the ten year history that I required for my long-term investing approach. I found sites that had message boards -- but they were so overrun with spam, day traders and stock touts that there was little in the discussions that gave me any particular insight about a company's long-term potential.

Fast forward to 2006.

Little has changed, it seems, when it comes to online resources for long-term, fundamental stock investors. It's the same old story, with plenty of web sites for traders who are looking to lose money fast and brokerage firms competing to see who can entice their customers to make the most trades. But for investors and investment club members who use ICLUBcentral software to analyze stocks for the long-term, there's precious few tools and communities online that will give you any additional insight about investing.

And now that's about to change.

I'm happy to introduce you to a brand new project of ICLUBcentral, a web-based tool that aims to offer exactly the data, community, insight, and analysis that I've been looking for all these years.

A web site where long-term, buy-and-hold stock investors can meet and share opinions with real, like-minded people using easy-to-use message boards and e-mail.

A web site where you can get high quality stock data prepared for use in your ICLUBcentral software programs.
