| Golden West Financial Corp., ticker symbol GDW on the NYSE, is a mid-sized company based on FY2005 revenues of $3.389 billion. It is in the Thrifts & Mortgage Finance industry. The company was included in the Complete Roster of Quality Companies for July 2006, with a Take Stock Quality Rating of 6.8.

| This was a really good stock for us; we took our profit just before their acquisition by Wachovia. Rather sad, since this was a "homespun" S&L and the original founders retired after many years of successful operations. I haven't kept up with how the merger worked out nor have I seen many articles referring to any impact on Wachovia's bottom line. Does anyone have current info? |
