I clicked on "mark all read" but I'm not sure what it accomplished.

Titles of threads that you haven't read should show us in bold face. The bold face should disappear once you've visite the thread. Marking all threads in a foum as "read" should mean that you won't see any bold face when you go back to the list of threads.

When you click "mark all read" is that for the whole forum or just for the specific folder or thread or whatever?

Okay, here's the scenario. I go to the "not read" screen and see a list of threads. I read the ones of interest. Now I'd like to click "mark read" somewhere that will remove the bold from everything else so that next time I come to the site, it assumes I've read everything prior to the time I clicked "mark read". I don't want to spend my time clicking on every thread to mark it read. Next time I come in, and click "Not Read" I don't want any of those messages to appear even if I haven't actually read them. Possible? For me the primary concern is to make this place efficient, so that I can take advantage of what interests me without wasting my "very precious time" on the rest.

That's a slightly different question. I'll see if that's possible. If not, the developers of this forum software seem to be open to suggestions. In other words ... "Mark every forum read" is what you'd like, right? It probably also would be nice to see unread with interspersed forum headings?

Another plea to allow clicking "mark read" to the "not read" screen. It's getting real tedious reading thru that ever increasing number of unread topics. Also, PLEASE collapse the ticker threads. You did it once, but maybe not from all the screens, i.e. not read, active topics, all forums, etc. I can't check exactly which ones without losing this reply box.

YOU can collapse the forums by clicking the double arrow head at the right end of the horizontal blue bars. I think that I have to refer many of your other "navigation" requests to the developers of the forum software. I'm not going to forget them, but not all are easily done quickly ...

Oops. You said collapse ticker threads and not collapse forums. If you want more control, you can go to your profile and show the most recent message first. I just changed the forum setting to show 10 rather than 25 posts per screen. Is that better? On long threads you can jump to the last screen easier ... Can you explain it to me?<< I want to come in, click unread and then read the topics of interest. When I next click unread, I will then see the remaining topics which are not of interest to me. At that screen I want to be able to click "mark read" so those unread threads don't keep showing up on future visits. I want the software to think I've read everything to date so next time I will see only topics posted since my last visit. What I'd really prefer is to see only messages posted since my last visit with the option to open a whole thread only if I choose to. I'm spending much too much time scrolling thru stuff I've already read or already decided not to read. I'm looking for this venue to be as convenient as the BI community or more so.

If you look for the >> at the end of the dark blue bar that separates the forum sections, clicking on it will either expand or collapse the inner forums. That should be sticky for you. So, do it once, and you won't have to do it again. What I'd really prefer is to see only messages posted since my last visit with the option to open a whole thread only if I choose to. That is what "Active Topics" is all about. And, you can click the drop down box with the date and time and control how far back in time you can look with Active Topics. I've requested a "mark all as read" feature. I'm spending much too much time scrolling thru stuff I've already read or already decided not to read. I'm looking for this venue to be as convenient as the BI community or more so. With your good suggestions and some help from the developer, I hope that we can exceed that standard.

Active topics gives the whole thread, not just the message since my last visit. And active topics gives topics since a given date. I want it to show only MESSAGES that I haven't yet read - and I want the ability to consider everything to date as read ONLY when I choose "mark read" If I'm not being clear, maybe we should talk on the phone. By the way, how'd you manage to put a nice grey box around your quoted sections? Also, why doesn't ctrl-N work here? I tried to use ctrl-N so I could check the active topic area. When i came back here, the whole page had expired. I also had trouble copying the entire message to paste to the reply box. I usually like to do that and then leave up only the parts I want. I had to keep going back and forth to copy sections. That's enough for one visit I'm really not trying to be a pest, but I think you're onto something and I want it to be friendly enough for me to use without spending endless time.

I tried the "Mark All Read" with Explorer and FireFox. The "link" was not active, nor did I see a green check mark. I will look in other themes to see if some are active. Lowell No. Not for every forum all at once. Within a forum, though, there is a "Mark All Read" link at the bottom of the list of topics in the forum. Look for the green check mark to locate it.

Within a forum, though, there is a "Mark All Read" link at the bottom of the list of topics in the forum. Look for the green check mark to locate it. Joe, I also thought for a while that the "Mark All Read" link was inactive because I thought I had read in one of your posts that the topic line(s) would go from bold to not-bold when this was clicked. However, I see that instead what happens is that the red star or check (sorry, old eyes can't really tell what that is even though I always wear magnifying glasses when using the computer) on the page graphic goes away. This link is not very useful because there are SO MANY forums -- one for each ticker, plus more. There's no way I'm going to visit all of them so I can check the "Mark All Read" link in each one.
