Happy Groundhog Day eve to all of you!
Leave it to me to gum up the works of this investment selection "contest" with a somewhat unusual entry.
My fifth pick in the contest is Vanguard Growth ETF (Ticker = VUG)
The analysis of funds (mutual funds, closed-end funds, exchange-traded funds) at www.manifestinvesting.com is based on the aggregate evaluation of all of the holdings. The weighted averages for each characteristic form our assessment of the funds. This includes projected annual return (PAR), quality rating, financial strength, forecasted sales growth, etc.
This particular ETF has many stocks that are appealing to the disciples of George [Nicholson]. The overall PAR is 12.7% and the quality rating is 71.2. This is an excellent quality rating (>65 for any stock is top quintile or excellent) and the fund ranks among the quality leaders among fund alternatives.
But perhaps more importantly, we track the median PAR for all 2700+ stocks followed at MANIFEST. It is currently near historical lows at 9.4%. The multi-decade range for this indicator has been 8-20%. At times like this, experience suggests that high-quality and high financial strength can be a very good idea. VUG has an average financial strength rating of 89% -- again ranking among the best of all funds that we follow.
The attached graphic provides a closer look at these characteristics for the top 25 holdings of VUG.
So many companies, so little time. For some investors, ETFs can be an extremely cost-effective long-term investing solution.
