Top Ten Reason to Attend InvestEd

InvestEd 2008 is the stellar national investor education event for long-term investors who use computers and electronic communications. We teach a consistent investment philosophy based on quality, growth, and good value.

The current difficult market environment is a timely reminder that education is the key to navigating choppy investment waters. The conference takes place August 8 through 10 at the Hilton Charlotte University Place Hotel in Charlotte, North Carolina.

We have lined up a panoply of stimulating and informative investor education sessions, superb instructors, top-drawer corporate sponsors, software vendors, and the ultimate Computer Lab and Cyber Cafe. Taking a cue from David Letterman, consider this:
Top Ten Reasons to Attend InvestEd 2008
  1. General Educational Sessions
  2. Newbie Program
  3. Leadership Training
  4. Instructors
  5. Software Tools
  6. Corporate Sponsors
  7. Computer Lab
  8. Cyber Cafe
  9. Stock Discoveries, Networking, and Fun
  10. Vacation Attractions

Notwithstanding all of the compelling features in the "InvestEd Ten Best", the curriculum and instructors are the main attraction. We'll focus on the educational sessions now and elaborate on the other compelling reasons to attend InvestEd later.

With 66 sessions, the comprehensive curriculum serves investors at all levels of expertise: the Newbie Program for neophyte investors; state-of-the-art general education sessions for beginning, intermediate, and advanced investors; and a Leadership Training program for investor education volunteers and investment club members.

The wealth of session choices is tantalizing and oftentimes attendees want to be at more than one session at the same time. It's reassuring to know that all attendees receive handouts for all sessions. Early Bird pricing ends on May 1 (less than three weeks away) and guarantees paper handouts as well as the CD with all handouts and supplementary material if you register by May 1. If you register after May 1, you will receive only the CD.

1. General Education Sessions

The mix of new and updated sessions attracts first time and repeat attendees eager to improve their investment and computer skills. The InvestEd general education sessions cover a diverse group of topics such as stock analysis techniques (including banks and REITs), desktop and online software tools, fruitful web sites, portfolio management, and researching the other 20%. And that's just for starters.

Every session description identifies the instructor, and the instructor's name is a link to her or his biography. Look for the links at the bottom of the instructor's bio to find links to all the sessions the instructor teaches at InvestEd 2008.

The majority of the session topics are new this year including a series called Five Steps to Smarter Investing taught by the pros on the ICLUBcentral staff. The topics in the series are: Finding Companies, Analyzing a Company, Comparing Companies, Sharing Information, and Managing Your Portfolio. Learn more with an Overview of the ICLUBcentral Investment Tools.

Saul Seinberg teaches the Mystery SSG Workshop, Sector and Industry Screening Asset Allocation, Using Options for Conservative Investors, and Funding Education. Brad Taylor of Churr Software discusses Speculation in Investment Portfolios.

Martha Alderson reviews When to Hire a Financial Planner and How to Find a Good One. Ira Smilovitz continues the planning theme with Planning for Retirement: How Do I Get There from Here? and You're Retired, Now What? Tax Efficient Strategies for Surviving Your Retirement. Ira is one of the top club accounting gurus and gives definitive answers about The ABCs (and IRS) of Investment Club Withdrawals.

Mark Robertson teaches and writes about long-term fundamental investing and is the founder of ManifestInvesting.com. He's scheduled to teach Small Company Discovery, Portfolio-Centered Decision Making, SSG Blind Spots, and Manifest Investing.

Joe Craig, ever inventive, teaches From the Top Down, StockCentral Unleashed!, and the Inner Geek Lives. Ann Cuneaz covers a wide array of topics: A Closer Look Using PERT Worksheet-A, Estimate Future Earnings Using the Preferred Procedure, The Curse of Analysis Paralysis, Company Research Using Value Line Reports, and Warnings and Red Flags Not on the SSG.

Louise Sechler makes stock analysis fun with the Stock Selection Guide: A Tool to Help Solve the Investment Puzzle. Bob Adams, Brian Altschul, Mary Ann Davis, Diane Graese, Phil Keating, Matt Willms, and Bart Womack, among others, cover many more topics. They make InvestEd education rewarding and the conference's reputation for Investor Education at Its Best™ a reality.

2. Newbie Program

The Newbie Program is designed specifically for attendees with little or no experience in long-term fundamental investing and for investors who want a refresher course. Space is limited and always fills to capacity. The successful program has received rave reviews for more than a decade. There is no additional charge, but you must check the Newbie box on the left side of the registration form.

Newbies meet together all day Saturday and on Sunday morning. They learn about the basic concepts of investing, how to find good stock candidates to study, how to obtain data, research stocks, make judgment decisions in stock analyses, and build and manage a stock portfolio. In the hands-on Computer Lab, tutors teach the Newbies how to use stock analysis software and where to find useful information on the Internet.

Finally, Newbies learn to evaluate their stock analyses. In addition, they learn about the merits and pitfalls of mutual funds. Sunday afternoon is open to attend InvestEd sessions of interest to new investors.

3. Leadership Training

In order to ensure that investor education continues throughout the year, we invite all attendees to participate (at no additional cost) in the Friday afternoon Leadership Training program sessions. They are geared for leaders and managers of local and regional investor education groups and investment clubs. You must check the box on the InvestEd registration form to indicate that you plan to attend Leadership Training.

In addition to the increased understanding of long-term fundamental investing concepts that you learn in the general education sessions and other activities, Leadership Training offers sessions to improve your presentation skills using PowerPoint and SnagIt. Mary Ann Davis is a crème de la crème instructor and her Building a Super Presentation session is spellbinding.

Learn how to use computerized tools to communicate with volunteers and club members, organize volunteer and club operations, and use Internet sites to enhance stock analysis and as you participate with a community of investors.

A series of sessions offers suggestions to effectively start and run investment clubs. Learn how to recruit and retain members, implement an education program, improve member participation, and avoid club accounting mistakes. Take the opportunity to pick the brains of experienced club members.

Please share this information with your chapter members, club members, and post to your mailing lists.
