Our chapter board is discussing the ethics of using BI chapter funds to defray director expenses to attend InvestEd 2007. What are other chapters doing?  In all honesty, InvestEd seems like a fish out of water without specific BI endorsement but staffed by many long-term BI members and active chapter directors.  Comparing the instructors for BINC and InvestEd, while both have fine presenters, InvestEd seems to have the most.  Comments anyone?

While the funds raised locally are meant to be used for educating directors, I'll bet they, BI, will frown on this. I think it would be a bad precedent to say which education avenues chapters can take advantage of. The stated mission is "to further the investment education of all members". We used chapter $$$ to send  directors to the community college for PPT workshops to learn how to make presentations. It was money well spent. Good luck!

This is my second try at a reply, hope it goes through.   If it is a duplicate, sorry.

John, it may seem to present a sticky situation, but consider this.   Our chapter is also sending a director to InvestEd2007.    I am not speaking officially for our chapter, but most of us feel that our volunteer purpose is to aid in the investing education of investment clubs and individual investors who prescribe to the original NAIC investing methods.   I would hazard a guess that a large amount of the attendees are still BI members.  We have no problem with providing education for clubs who may maintain only minimal contact with basic BI membership, but get their data and online tools from StockCentral.   Many of us as individuals do the same.   We also provide for  clubs who remain totally BI, or independent clubs we acquire information on who request our training.  Our loyalty is primarily to clubs and individuals who want help in long-term investing goals.  The funds in our chapter are derived as a result of our volunteer activities and classroom fees paid by BI and non-BI members alike.  Yes, we report to BI, and if we ended our relationship with them, we know they will retain possession of these funds.  Meanwhile, we will use them for their purpose, quality education for clubs and individuals.

John,
One would think that Investment Education is akin to investing in a company - Quality at the right Price. Do what is right for your volunteers who help all who wish to learn how to manage for themselves following the principals of George Nicholson be they members or not of BetterInvesting.
Audete Imperio!
You did it once before when you followed the lead of naicspace.org.
