My druthers would be a plane hub where we could all fly to [A self-interested aside would be Washington DC - it has 3 major airports and some nice scenery, although August in DC is can sometimes be humid]
If you can't do it in DC, ok I understand.... how about alternating between West, East and Central, say:
Central : Kansas City/St Louis
East: Philly/Jersey
West: Seattle or Vancouver

I would also like DC though it's clear across the country from me. It's a place I've always wanted to visit. But DEFINITELY NOT in August!

Denver is great in August! We'd love to have InvestEd here. There's lots to do, the evenings are cool and in the event the days are warm, you can always drive 30 minutes to the Rocky Mountains.

>How about San Jose, CA next time you come to the West Coast.
Hi Polly,
San Jose was on our short list of cities this year. I solicited and received
proposals from 4 hotels in the area.
There is a "price range" that is
saleable to our attendees. That range includes pricing for meals and hotel
rooms. Unfortunately, none of the facilities who had the meeting space to
facilitate the event could provide us with a room cost and food and beverage
cost that would work. We were terribly disappointed because we really wanted San Jose and the Silicon Valley to be feasible.
We will again look at the
Silicon Valley when it's time to return to the West Coast, and see if the market
has changed.
Thanks for your post. I hope you'll join us in Orange County
in August.

We'll definitely look at Denver again, and it was a pleasure emailing with you
when we hoped Denver would host the first annual InvestEd. Just so people know,
the dates for InvestEd would have negatively impacted the Chapter's EduFest
event the beginning of September. We believed that was unfair, and regrettably
looked elsewhere.

I don't think Seattle is too humid in August ... compared to other areas in the US. And there is NO PLACE in the World more beautiful than the Puget Sound in August, unless it's Eastern Washington in May or June. ;-) Spokane is not a "hub" city, but we do have a nice airport. Id didn't see Spokane on your list of possibles. :-D

Hmm - How about a completely different idea with special appeal for the Northern Snow Birds! What would be your feelings about holding InvestEd in a warm climate such as Florida, Arizona, Louisana or Texas, in the months of say Jan, Feb or March? What cities and states would be a big attraction for you?

Kathleen,
DC is no hotter than some of the other cities we have had CF in the past. Also if you are attending the event you are not taking the classes outside (or so I hope). Finally, if InvestEd follows the tradition of CF of rotating around the country then it means looking at either the Midwest, the South or the East.

Oh, yeah, but I've always wanted to see DC, which is why I cast a vote for it in a half-**ed sort of way. So I would want to combine CF there with a lot of sightseeing either before or after and then I wouldn't like the heat. So I would vote for DC in some cooler part of the year, was my point.

I'm with Mary Ann. Florida anytime between January and the first of May is wonderful. And of course, Orlando has a major airline hub, all the attractions, and just an hour from the beach and Cape Kennedy. My vote would be in March, preferably. Gene Rooks, Gotha, Fla. |

As one of the InvestEd organizers, I'd just like to note that we really do appreciate your comments and suggestions, and that we take them all into account as we plan future events. That said, there are a number of factors that we have to consider. Some of these include:
- Hotel room rates - it's hard to get less than $150/night in many major cities
- Hotel space - many of the smaller cities can't handle our needs for meeting rooms (classrooms) and banquet space (we need to feed between 500 and 600 people!)
- Access - we like to use cities that have convenient air access, and we like to have the hotel "near" the airport, at least transportation-wise (cost and time)
As for time of year, we want to find a time of year that makes sense for our attendees and our potential public company sponsors. Our previously traditional late June time was good for that. Some people would like to hold the event in warm weather in the winter. Others would like to see some events further north. This is probably the hardest one.
Anyone want to join our team as a meeting planner? |
