Updated February 12, 2007

Since the IRS revised the deadline for filing 2006 returns until Tuesday, April 17, 2007, there is an impact on some state deadlines as well. The following is a listing of the current status of state deadlines as they are known on January 30, 2007, for both individuals and clubs. Some states will recognize the new deadline for their state returns; others will not; and some others haven't announced one way or the other. I will try to update this list as more information becomes known.

Alabama: Alabama will follow the IRS.

Alaska: Alaska follows the IRS.

Arizona: Conformity with this deadline requires statutory changes for Arizona. Their plan is to seek emergency legislation to accomplish this.

California. Extended to April 17, 2007.

Colorado: Due date is April 17, 2007.

Connecticut: Because Connecticut follows the federal law on this issue, 2006 Connecticut income tax returns and payments will be timely if filed on or before April 17, 2007.

District of Columbia: Since April 15th, 2007 is on Sunday and DC government will be closed on April 16, 2007 in observance of Emancipation Day, the deadline for all types of filings and payments due originally for April 15, 2007 will be April 17, 2007.

Florida: Section 220.222(1) of the Florida statutes provides in part: "All other returns shall be filed on or before the 1st day of the 4th month following the close of the taxable year or the 15th day following the due date, without extension, for the filing of the related federal return..." Under the 15 day rule, the return would be due May 2, 2007.

Georgia: Georgia will extend the due date to April 17, 2007 for all returns that would normally be due on April 15, 2007.

Hawaii: The change to April 17, 2007, as the deadline for filing 2006 federal individual income tax returns, and its effect on certain federal tax-filing and payment requirements will have no impact on 2006 Hawaii individual income tax returns.

Idaho: April 17th is due date for 2007.

Indiana: Still waiting on word from management.

Kansas: Kansas is conforming with the IRS and extending their deadline to 4/17/07.

Kentucky: Changed to April 17.

Louisiana: Louisiana filing date is May 15th. The only possible impact is if the taxpayer files a 6 month federal extension. They will be required to honor the extension date of 10/17/07 if citzens place the federal extension on our return.

Maine: This will have no effect on Maine returns. The deadline for filing will be Tuesday, April 17 anyway. Monday, April 16 is Patriots Day, a holiday only celebrated by Maine and the folks in Massachusetts.

Maryland: The Maryland due date for all items listed was previously April 17 because of the change in the federal due date for returns sent to the Massachusetts processing center. April 17 is a state holiday in Massachusetts.

Michigan: Moved to the April 17 due date.

Minnesota: Minnesota will fully conform to the change in due date by the IRS. That is, regardless of specific issue, if the normal due date is on April 15th, the due date for 2007 will be April 17th.

Missouri: Changed to April 17th.

Montana: Montana code does not allow the state to follow the extension.

Nevada: No impact — there is no state income tax in Nevada.

New Hampshire: NH follows the IRS. April 17th is the due date

New Jersey: NJ follows the IRS. April 17th is the due date.

New Mexico: New Mexico is looking at this question.

New York: NY will comply with the Federal for filing the return and paying the tax due. For NY residents, the due date is 4/17, per earlier IRS notification

New York State: The NYS return due date is April 16, 2007, or April 17, 2007 for taxpayers who file their federal returns at Andover, MA, though the Department is reviewing the changes.

North Carolina: North Carolina will follow the April 17 extended filing date and consider any returns and payments that would have been due on April 16 as timely if filed and paid by April 17. The extended deadline will apply to the following State forms:
 • 2006 State individual income tax returns, whether filed electronically or on paper
 • Partnerships
 • Estates and Trusts
 • Corporate income and franchise tax returns (C or S) for the tax period ending 1/31/07
 • Corporate income tax returns of tax-exempt organizations reporting unrelated business income for tax period ending 11/30/06
 • Corporate income tax return for cooperative or mutual association for tax period ending 7/31/06
 • Extension requests for the above forms
 • Individual and Corporate estimated tax payments for the first quarter of 2007

Ohio: Changed due date to April 17th.

Oklahoma: Oklahoma will follow the IRS.

Oregon: Oregon is tied to the IRS for due date for filing tax returns and making payments. Therefore, because April 15th, 2007 is on a Sunday and DC government will be closed on Monday, April 16, 2007 in observance of Emancipation Day, Oregon’s deadline for all types of filings and payments due will be April 17, 2007. This applies only to the Personal Income tax program. Oregon has its own statute for Corporate returns. Thus, returns for Corporations with a calendar year end date are still due on Monday, April 17th.

Pennsylvania: This will confirm that PA is locked into the federal filing due date per 72 PS 7330.

Rhode Island: Rhode Island will use the April 17, 2007 filing date based on the federal change.

Tennessee: Changed to April 17th

Vermont: Vermont's due date had already been adjusted to April 17th due to the holiday (Patriot's Day) in Massachusetts.

New Jersey is conforming to the IRS deadline, so it's April 17th for them, too.
