Just a thought ... since many clubs have websites - and others are finding value in having an online repository for links, research, etc. ... IF stockcentral provided space for clubs - then, by default, all members of the club/group would "sign-onto" StockCentral.com frequently - thus, you should experience membership growth ...
Please excuse me if this topic has been addressed previously ... but, as I recover from New Year's it seemed to be a reasonable idea ...

Hi George,
Thanks for your input, it sounds like an interesting idea,
and one we have kicked around a little here to some degree.
For StockCentral.com, we'd like in the future to enable the
ability to see other member's customizable "public profile page" (if person
chooses to make public), where one could post files, links etc. I am not
sure that implementing a publicly accessible 'club site' on stockcentral.com
would be beneficial as most users of the site (hopefully) have individual
accounts. For clubs i'd like to see a more customizable (by enabled
officers of the club) "public club" page, a la:
Which allows for storage of files and is publicly
accessible. Making it more personable by enabling more customization i
think would be beneficial (we could place our own stockcentral.com ads/links on
these customizable public club pages). Then myiclub.com members who are
also involved in stockcentral.com could post messages in the "Clubhouse"
referencing their club's 'public' site.
Is this similar to what you had in mind? Please let
me know, and thanks for your thoughts!

Thanks ... yeah - I expected the topic had been considered but as I thought about it, I had to send a message.
I went to ...
Suggestions might include being able to limit access to that specific club's members, etc. Is there a need/desire for a club's holdings - and the financial details to be private? I don't know as our group has not made the leap to investing as a group - we're focused on education exclusively at this time. There are only 3 of us with "experience" making investments "on our own" so we are trying to get others knowledgeable at this time.
Yeah - you guy's have the idea and are on track developing it. Great.

George, I also hope they can get a public interface
for clubs to see a little of what each other are doing, and be able to
communicate with each other, especially if in the same area, to pool events and
resources. A public page, perhaps access to SSG's and other
specified uploaded documents, a portfolio page. However, there
should not be any access to the full accounting records, except for members of
the club.

A public "home page" like bivio would be beneficial as this lets clubs give a short bio on thier history, and goals. A contact is available if someone wishes to get ahold of the club for questions or potential membership. Also others can view what clubs are holding. Currently CAO users can make certain files public and keep others private. When CAO took away the link section, I, with the suggestion from another member, put a list of url's on a word document and put the document up for viewing. People can access the links from that document.
Maybe in the clubhouse SC could track the top holding of clubs using CAO, without identifying the clubs of course. This would be a great resource for ideas and discussion. |

I agree. Currently our club doesn't subscribe to Bivio or CAO and we would like to have some type of online website to store files, SSG's, Meeting Agendas, minutes. We have looked at Bivio, and I think it's great, we did the 90-day free trial, but other members didn't find it useful, and our treasurer isn't comfortable with it, so we would basically be paying for Bivio for just the club website tools/files.
I am always interested in what other clubs are doing and how they study stocks and what their SSG's might look like. Our club has been in existence for 10 yrs (or more) and I have been a member for 4. I think my return so far is -6%. Yes, that's negative. Fortunately for me, I have been investing in my own personal accounts for quite some time, and feel I am doing very well. I find I learn more from the folks here at Stock Central, Manifest and BI Compuserve than I do at my club meetings. Sometimes, I don't hear from any club members for several weeks - I need daily, or at least weekly interactions to keep me learning. My club is not providing that for me. So, I thank you all for your contributions over the years......
Sorry - I got off the subject, but I just wanted to share my frustrations. LOL.
I would love to see more clubs sharing info - I even suggested we have a meeting with other clubs in our area - to share ideas and what not. I mean, we have the same goal, there are no secrets not to share, right? If we could somehow pool our resources, we could all benefit and hopefully continue learning.

Laura if you want to have a online site just to store files, yahoo and google offer these for free. You can make folders for different categories. The unfortunate part is that you cannot make the site or files public without some, forgive me, yahoo coming in and spamming. Both of these options would need to be private only but are good options for file storage. |

If you use CAO then you will have web space. You can authorize "guests" to view the site.
We use desktop CA but also subscribe to CAO to allow the club access to the accounting records but also as a site to store files [we've solved "now which is the latest version of the stock presentation schedule? "]

If you are the president sec. or treasurer only send correspondence through the site and post all needed materials there. Thye will have to learn this to get the latest info. Sooner than later they will become comfortable with it. |

We are also a non-investment Investment club/group. Our focus is education ... ONLY. We teach beginners - then, we work together, researching stocks - and all benefit from each others research ... though we usually do a little research on our own before investing real money into a stock reviewed by another member.
We have a "Yahoo! Group" set up ... and we use it extensively. Questions from one member are seen by the group - and usually generate 4-5 responses. Research is put into the "Files" section - as are articles, etc. Notes/handouts for the upcoming meeting are there as well. Of course - we use the calendar for reminders. Links are to sites of investment interest.
The bottom line is that the Yahoo! Group site works well ... though, I believe, an organization such as Stock Central could provide a similar function with the enhancement that groups could communicate some of their information to other groups ... and everyone would be accessing via Stock Central. That would make newcomers familar with Stock Central ... thus, additional members. Simply stated - Stock Central could provide benefits that went beyond what a Yahoo! Group or similar site could provide.
