Our club has HD and we are talking about the Dutch auction.  Since the 52-week high is about $42, how can we go wrong in putting a bid in at, say $43.50?

What does everyone think about the HD purchase of shares from the market? They have subsequently lowered their range of prices. I know we missed tendering our club shares earlier, but even then, is it a time to bail and run?

The economy may be bad for home shares for next 6 mnths, but then! Thanks in advance to everyone who replies to this request! sandeep

Wow how things change in a quarter now HD is trading at $29. Yield is almost 3% which helps. Nancy did your club buy it? Are you adding to positions?

We have not purchased lately except what we get through dividend reinvestment - it had become too large a % of the portfolio. Your question makes me consider suggesting it at our next meeting.

But do you think that it will be a while before we see price growth? Maybe it can wait.

Yes I do think it will be a few Q's or so. The winter quarter is usually HD's slowest so this could be a time to collect cash and take a bigger position later on in 2008. I haven't seen any deterioration in their credit quality not do I expect it. I think I read where they took on debt partially to buy back shares. Which I think is a stupid use of credit facilities. If this is not so someone will hopefully pipe in.

Take a look at Ralph Seger's comments about LOW over in that forum.  Any discussion of HD should also include a discussion of LOW.
