That's a pretty fantastic feat in this economy. I saw a story on CNN this morning where same store sales for many, many major retailers were significantly down in December -- for companies like Target (-5%), the Gap (-9%), Limited Brands (-8%), Macy's (-7.9%), J.C. Penney (-7%), Kohl's (-11%). The comparisons are a little skewed because November's reporting period in 2007 had an extra week of post-Thanksgiving sales than in 2006, but it means that companies with positive growth are doing really, really well. Wal-Mart's same store sales were up 2.9%, which is one of the few other positive reporting companies. Doug |

Once again COST had a 8% rise in SSS. Beat EPS est by 32%. The theory is people are doing bulk buying as a way to save on trips to stores. Still a hold and add to position in my 25 stocks to own portfolio.
