This is a company in the medical instrument andsupply sector. 25% of the share are publically traded [NYSE] 25% are owned by Novartis [as of July 2008] and the balance are owned by Nestles. Novartis has the right to buy the balance of the Nestles shares during the period January 2010 to July 2011 at $181/share or market plus 20% under a put/call arrangement.
The stock price is substantially depressed versus it historical range. The PE is low. The earnings are strong. It appears on the roster of quality stocks with a 6.8 rating. Anyone have any thoughts on this stock? Using a 10% growth rate and a 20/10 high/low PE [all very low in terms of history] the stock yields a 21% return.
According to the Alcon web site the current $2.53 dividend is subject to a Swiss tax withholding ⎯%] so the net paid is $1.65; however, they indicate that you may apply to reclaim the withholding. Is anyone familiar with this process? Isthis essentially "automatic" for US citizens? In other words. - is the pre-US tax dividend $2.53 or $1.65.
