For today's final workshop, I'll be happy to answer any specific questions regarding IAM v2.0. If you would like to know more about specific transaction entries, how transactions can be downloaded from financial institutions, how IAM can be used with Investor's Toolkit, or anything else you might have a question about, please ask.
Thank you for following this workshop.

We are aware of the extensive help screens in PM. Is there a manual that can be printed from the program disc or from your web site for IAM? Some of us like to get oriented and study from a manual. Thanks, Arnie Siemsen |

Hi Arnie: Under the help menu you'll find the last menu choice for printing the IAM manual. Also, IAM offers a similar detailed online help system that you can review under the help menu | contents choice. Matt |

Thanks for the workshop Matt. Helped this newbie get started. Great software. Some discussion on the relationship or connection in the Asset Library of Current and Historical. Such as why doesn't the symbol get added to historical at the same time as current? Must you also add to Historical? After a position is sold, do you Delete Not Held from Current Asset Library? When must you use the Refresh Home Page? I guess it refreshes all portfolios and the same time. |

Hi Ron, Glad you found the workshop helpful. to answer your questions: 1) The current asset library holds all assets currently owned in portfolios, as well as any 'watch list' issues you might like to track. This library is used to derive all current valuations on reports, derive current performance, etc. The historic library is used to store past market prices for specific dates. Once created, these historic dates can be used for 'as of date' reporting, performance between periods, etc. Issues only need to be added to the historic dates provided they are owned in one or more portfolios as of that date. IAM will automatically scan all portfolios for the historic date created and include those issues held as of the date. IAM will also prompt to retrieve historic prices automatically from the Internet for the date created. 2) Yes, if you have sold an issue, and it is not held in any other portfolios, you can use the 'delete not held' choice to remove from the current asset library. Past records for this issue will be retained for reporting purposes. 3) the home page refresh can be used any time after making editing changes, updates, etc. In most cases, the home page will refresh automatically based on what you were last doing. For example, if you update with recent market prices, the home page will refresh automatically so your views are reflecting most recent pricing. Hope that helps, Matt |

Hi Matt:
I'm late to this workshop, so please excuse me if you've already answered this question.
Does Investment Account Manager (IAM) have any special features to make calulating the basis of dividend reinvesting stocks any easier?
I just finished our taxes and my basis (bases?) drove me nuts.
For example, to calculate the basis for Idearc, a Verizon spin-off, I had to go back 10 years and calculate my dividend reinvesting dollars for Verizon and for Bell Atlantic, NYNEX, GTE (all of which merged with Verizon).
That's alotta calculations, way too many for me.
The quarterly dividend statements give me my cumulative share count, but not my cumulative dollar investment.
I also had to go back to 1996 to calculate the basis for LSI, which bought Agere, which was spun-off from Lucent, which also spun-off Avaya.
Can you help?

Hi Armin: Yes, IAM has all the record keeping features you need to track accurate cost basis for reinvestments, spin-offs, mergers, exchanges, etc. So, as long as you enter your transaction history, then any reinvestments that are sold will properly account for gains/losses. Any spin-offs you receive will properly be allocated from parent lots for accurate basis and performance. We have had many users accurately account for both transactions you mentioned. - Matt |
