As Circuit City sputters along, Best Buy is looking better and better. Circuit City's recent decision to fire 3,400 employees and cut costs was a complete backfire. Not only did they loose much of their most experienced sales team, causing them to post losses in TV sales (tough to sell high ticket items when your sales team knows little about them), but they also incurred a major law suit from the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union. How's that for a slap in the face?
Best Buy is fast establishing its dominance. It has been a steady growth company for the last 10 years with a TakeStock SSG as pretty and straight as a beauty queen on a flag pole. Their major competitor Circuit City, however, features a TakeStock SSG that about amounts to a fart in a space suit. Circuit City may have been competition in 2000, but times have changed and BB is the new Walmart of entertainment technology.
Does Best Buy have any serious competition now aside from the ailing Circuit City? |

Nick, What do you think the impact of BBY's new Geek Squad headquarters in Kentucky (becasue it is a UPS hub) will be on the business? I first looked at BBY after reading an article in our local paper about the new building and emphasis on repairing laptop computers. They expect a repair turnaround of about 3 days. |
