Have been a member of Stock Central for some time, and using the Stock Central data downloads.  I seem to remember that back when I subscribed to the S&P data downloads through BI, a consensus/average Analyst's Estimate would load into the Estimated High Earnings area of Section 4 of the SSG (when opened the box).  I also thought I remember being told that eventually the Stock Central data would include this.

Can anybody enlighten me on this - or did I dream it?   When coming up with future earnings judgement, I used to like to  compare the Value Line future estimate along with the "Analyst's Estimate" etc. to see if I was "in the ballpark" when selecting my future high earnings estimate, so that was a convenient way to add one more finger to the pulse.

The StockCentral data feed does not currently include analysts' EPS estimates. We're mostly conflicted about the value of those long-term estimates -- it seems that investors attach too much weight to the figures when they're imported into the software directly, leading them to give credence to numbers that may not be any more accurate than the user's own projections. You can enter analysts' long-term growth rate in the data entry screen if you wish.

Toolkit 6 does include a new feature that will let you plot EPS estimates for any of the next 1-5 years on the graph that might guide your projections. You have to enter these figures by hand, but it might give you a better picture of the company's future.

Many pundits caution against comparing the Toolkit method of projecting earnings to the Value Line method. They're not directly compatible, and actually project different periods using different starting and end points, so you could unintentionally end up in a different ballpark unless you know what you're comparing.

Doug, we have TK6 and are not sure what you mean by entering the analysts' estimates by hand. We know the quarterly and annual data screens have drop down boxes for future estimated data. But is that new in TK6? TK5 has the same capability, yes? So what is the new TK6 feature that allows graphing up to 5 years of EPS estimates?

Thanks, Keith & Anne Hoile

This is a new feature for Toolkit 6 -- it is not in Toolkit 5.

In the Visual Analysis window, Toolkit 6 has a button called EPS Estimates at the top. Click it and you can enter the future FY EPS Estimates based on whatever source you would like to use (Value Line, Zacks, etc.). After you enter those figures, they display on the stock study graph, like this:

These can help you in making your EPS projections.
