I've attended several investing seminars where the presentations are video-taped, and later resold as reference material or tutorials.

There also seems to be an absolute dearth of DVD training material on NAIC/Better Investing methodologies and tools.

Any idea if any DVDs might be made available from Invest ED?

I for one would be very interested in seeing training material on NAIC/Better Investing on DVD’s instead of just books or online. It will make it easier for those who volunteer to teach and train as well as for personal educational purpose and Clubs. Any one else think so? td

Thank you for the question and the interest.

Conference video recording for a 2-1/2 day event is expensive. Although we created and executed 16 years of CompuFest, InvestEd is a new venture for us, and it's without a lot of financial backing. Although we were successful with InvestEd 2007, our 2008 event still has a very small budget.

I am researching conference audio taping, and we're hoping to be able to offer audio recordings for InvestEd 2008. Video, though is going to have to wait until we have a bigger budget (accomplished by people attending the event and companies sponsoring the event)

Kind regards,

Maybe an idea for the future is to have a streaming live video of the event. Subscribers could tune in at different times to view certain classes over a weeks period. Offer maybe two sessions for a fee. Subscribers could buy whatever offering/package they choose. This might help to engage the masses and promote InvestEds that come into their areas.

Some video conferencing company might offer a discount to run an ad to viewers. Just  a thought for members who don't want or can't  travel across country.

Mike where did you see classes on DVD from BI?

Danny - you misunderstood. I've attended options trading expos at CBOE where each session is videotaped, and the DVDs of the session are later made available through the Traders Library resource. If I truly enjoy one of the sessions (or had to make an attendance choice between two good simultaneous sessions...) then I'll order the session for my library. I end up mentoring folks quite a bit on stocks and options, and loaning out my library to get them started or to answer questions.

I'm guessing that online demos of software product features, explanation of basic methods (SSG, PMG, Challenge...) would all be good topics to create a "knowledge database" online in the form of DVD, AVI or even web-based presentations.

Danny:

That's a great idea to have user's pay for sessions with live streaming video.  I think more people would pay for that, than travelling cross-country, although I might attend in person.  I know for a fact most of my club will not, but might fork over $$$ for a class or two in their own home.

It would make economical sense for those who can't travel or the cost of going across country is too prohibitive. I don't know how many people would have gone to BI national events had they not been subsidized by their chapters. This approach could make the national events truly national or international.

Allow me to answer the easy question first :-)  At most CompuFests, Chapter Directors represented 25 - 30% of our attendance.

To answer the hard questions. We can't have live streaming video without an event. We can't have an event without attendees and sponsors. Sponsors won't come without attendees.

Hmmm... maybe folks will say "Put teachers in front of a camera with their PPT on the screen in their hometown and just video!" There's an excitement in the air at InvestEd, even better than there was at CompuFest. As an instructor, I can say that my performance in an empty room (practice) is much different than when I have a room full of people. Beyond that, there is so much more to being at InvestEd than attending classes.

Take a look at the InvestEd 2007 photos and let me know if you see what I mean.

Pam you would still hold the event as planned but if reaching the masses was a focus one would use the mass media. Sponsors could place ads on the video just as they put them everywhere else. Even at BI's top membership they were only reaching 300-400 members per year, double it if you count BINC. Out of 500K members that is only,  (approx), a tenth of one pct of the membership

By the video I mean tape the actual class including class participation. If  being there is a draw live video should not take from InvestEd or other national events, only enhance it.

Maybe when I am retired from my job I can afford the time to attend all these events.  When one only gets 2 weeks of vacation per year, those days get used up pretty quickly with other obligations.  I will have to continue to educate myself in my home as much as possible, and attend the local weekend events.  I like the fact that InvestEd is Friday, Sat & Sunday - that is quite do-able and I'm going to make every attempt to attend next year.
